Kintbury to Bedwyn
Cruising Through Sunshine and Scenery
We left Kintbury this morning in glorious sunshine, with birds singing all around us—such a peaceful and relaxing start to the day. Once again, the scenery was absolutely stunning, and the sweet smell of nature filled the air.
We were lucky enough to have the lovely crew from The Rose of Hungerford help us through Dun Mill Lock—what a treat!
Marsh Lock and its swing bridge are always a bit of fun. You have to open the swing bridge first, as it actually crosses over the lock itself. Always a bit of a puzzle for first-timers!
Cobblers Lock is still my favourite—so picturesque. Though the paddles were a bit stiff this time, a kind local warned us (not like that last time!). We also had a great chat with some hikers who used to own a narrowboat themselves—lots of canal tales were exchanged.
The stretch toward Froxfield was simply beautiful—narrow, winding, and peaceful.
At Froxfield Top Lock, we were joined by a group of young adults on a trip organized by the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust as part of their Duke of Edinburgh scheme. Such a lovely, enthusiastic group—they were clearly loving every minute of it!
We left them at Bedwyn, where we had a quick stop to remove a rope that had wrapped around our propeller. After that little adventure, we headed to our mooring spot for the night.
All in all, it turned out to be a hot, sunny, and thoroughly enjoyable day—made even better by the lovely people we met along the way.
